Prepare with confidence for the 9th Grade SHSAT.
LPX Prep's SHSAT 9th Grade Prep course is designed for students who are taking the 9th Grade SHSAT to improve their opportunities for admission to a New York City specialized high school—whether they are applying for the first time, seeking a second chance, or transferring to a different specialized high school.
Combining LPX Prep's proven methodologies, experienced instructors, flexible schedules, and affordable tuition, the course provides comprehensive instruction, realistic practice, and proven test-taking strategies. Students build the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to maximize their performance and achieve their best possible score on the 9th Grade SHSAT.
The 9th grade challenge.
Students who are not offered admission to a New York City specialized high school based on their 8th Grade SHSAT results have another opportunity to qualify by taking the 9th Grade SHSAT in November. Because only a few hundred seats are available for 9th-grade admissions—compared with approximately 4,000 seats for incoming 8th graders—the competition is especially intense. Achieving a high score on the 9th Grade SHSAT is essential for gaining admission to a specialized high school.

How to get a high score on the 9th grade SHSAT?
As you may have noticed, a significant portion of the 9th Grade SHSAT covers the same concepts and skills tested on the 8th Grade SHSAT. Therefore, focusing only on the additional 9th-grade topics is not enough. To achieve a high score on the 9th Grade SHSAT, students must have a strong foundation in both the 8th Grade SHSAT material and the additional topics unique to the 9th Grade SHSAT.
Why Choose LPX Prep for the 9th Grade SHSAT?
LPX Prep's 9th Grade SHSAT Prep is designed specifically for students who are taking the 9th Grade SHSAT. Because a significant portion of the exam covers the same concepts tested on the 8th Grade SHSAT, our course includes comprehensive preparation for both the 8th Grade SHSAT material and the additional topics unique to the 9th Grade SHSAT.
In addition to complete 8th Grade SHSAT preparation, the course features:
- Advanced 9th-grade mathematics topics
- Extensive SHSAT-style ELA instruction and practice
- Two additional math lessons designed specifically for 9th Grade SHSAT students
- Hundreds of realistic practice questions and exercises
This comprehensive approach has helped many of our students achieve outstanding results on the 9th Grade SHSAT. Over the years, LPX Prep students have earned admission to Stuyvesant High School, Bronx High School of Science, and several other New York City specialized high schools. In fact, some of our highest SHSAT scores have been achieved by students taking the 9th Grade SHSAT. (See our SHSAT Achievers List for details.)
